Harvey K. Rutledge
1919 - 2006

Harvey K. Rutledge, 86, of Mason City died on July 15, 2006 in the Mason City Area Nursing Home.
He was born near Atterberry, IL, July 21, 1919, to George Kirby and Zelma (King) Rutledge. He graduated from Greenview High School in 1937. He married Mary Jane Stone on November 24, 1943.
He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Mason City. He volunteered his services during and following construction of the Mason City Area Nursing Home. He served on the Mason City School Board twelve years, seeing construction of the grade school and high school. He served as treasurer of Salt Creek Mutual Telephone Co, served on the Farm Home Administration Board and was a Mason County Farm Bureau member.
He enjoyed target shooting, pinochle parties, boating, fishing and spending time with his family. As health declined, he was an avid reader, and his selfless wit and humor endeared him to his caregivers.
As a boy, he plowed and cultivated with horses. Harvey and Jane farmed south of Mason City until retirement in 1985. They are the parents of John (Nancy) Rutledge of Wheaton, IL, Jeanne (Terry) Wunderle of Mason City, Randy (Mary) Rutledge of Havana, Tom (Elaine) Rutledge of Geneseo, IL and Gaye (John) Maxson of Mason City.
Grandchildren include Edward Rutledge, son of John and Nancy. Dawn Wunderle Stultz, Victor Wunderle and Sally Wunderle Seipp, children of Jeanne and Terry. Julie Rutledge Williams, Justin Rutledge, children of Randy Rutledge and Myrna Rutledge., Sara Rutledge Wirth and David Rutledge, children of Tom and Elaine, Mary Maxson Day, Marcia Maxson, Dale Maxson, and Daniel Maxson, children of Gaye and John. Great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren include Bunny and Ellie Rutledge, Levi and Andrew Stultz, Josiah and Justin Williams, Samantha Rutledge, Jonathan Grotzinger, Ryan and Jared Seipp, and Mitchell and Annie Wirth.
Funeral services for Mr. Rutledge will be held Friday, July 21, 2006 at his church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006. Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery following the services.
