Helen Louise Ortgessen Darr

1917 - 2008

Helen Louise Ortgessen Darr, 91 of Fort Worth, Texas passed away Friday October 24, 2008 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, in Waco, Texas.

Helen was born August 11, 1917 in Beardstown to William and Suzanna (Susan) Andree Ortgessen.  She married Stanley Darr in Petersburg June 26, 1943; he preceded her in death October 24, 2003.

After high school Helen attended Brown Business College in Springfield.  She worked for period of time for a lawyer in Petersburg before marrying and starting her family.  After marrying Stanley, they resided in Petersburg, and Peoria before moving to Fort Worth, Texas in 1964. Helen retired form Tarrant County Clerks Office in 1982.  Helen and Stanley were active in the Boy and Girl Scouts when their children were young.  They enjoyed taking vacations with their family and especially enjoyed the mountains of Colorado.  Helen could often be found outside; she enjoyed gardening and watching birds.  She also enjoyed the game of bridge and played with her neighbors in Illinois and Texas.  She always had an interest in politics, and was active in the Republican Womanʼs organization.  In later years she joined the Fort Worth Hummel Club.  Helen and Stanley started square dancing in 1973.  They met a lot of nice people, forged friendships with many of them that remained until their deaths.

She will be remembered as being a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother- in- law, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Her family was of the up most importance and she always enjoyed when the rest of the family came to Texas for a visit.

She is survived by two sons Arthur Darr and Tom Darr both of Fort Worth, TX, one daughter Phyllis (husband Dub) Carter of Waco, TX, two grandchildren Jason Carter, and Jennifer (husband James) Carr both of Waco, Texas, one great grandson Grayson Carr of Waco, TX, one sister Mary Ortgessen of Petersburg, One brother Bill (wife Helen) Ortgessen of Petersburg, one sister in law Emma Hubbartt of Inverness, Fl, many nieces and nephews, and her wonderful friends Glen and Roie Ellen Lemon of Fort Worth, TX.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Stanley, one sister Glenna Peyton, and brother in laws Arthur H. Peyton, and Gene Hubbartt.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday October 29, 2008 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, MSGR. Carl Kemme will be officiating.

 Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is in charge of arrangements.
