Helen J. Stevens 1915 - 2008
Helen J. Stevens 93, of Petersburg passed away on Saturday September 13, 2008 at Menard Convalescent Center in Petersburg. Helen was born February 1, 1915 in Greenview to Albin and Ida Nelson Gustafson She married John Stevens in Greenview. Helen and her husband John founded Stevens Implements Company in 1957. At that time the only employees were John, Helen, Ron, and Carl Williams. She continued to be active with other office staff until her retirement. With two branches, one in Petersburg, and later one in Havana, working in the office Helen was in charge of the daily business. She retired form the family business in 1995. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Petersburg. She is survived by her son Ronald (wife George Ann) Stevens of Petersburg, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dennis (wife Pam) their daughter Aubrey Stevens, Derrick (wife Debbie) son Jonathan, daughter Samantha Stevens, and Drew (fiancée’ Tracy Gordon) Stevens all of Petersburg, one brother John (wife Katie) Gustafson of Greenview, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John, two brothers, and one sister. Services will be held Tuesday September 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Petersburg. Visitation will be held Monday September 15, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in Petersburg, or to the Menard Convalescent Center. Online memorials may be left at www.hurleyfh.com. |
