Howard L. "Pete" Burgett 1924 - 2008 Howard L. “Pete” Burgett, 83, of Havana, passed away at 10:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Marigold Health Care Center in Galesburg. He was born August 16, 1924 in Clinton, IL to Lee and Lorcye (Bell) Burgett. He married Marjorie Crompton on July 6, 1946 at the 1st Baptist Church in Havana. Mr. Burgett is survived by his wife of Havana, two sons: Brad Burgett of East Peoria, and Richard (Jen) Burgett of Reston, VA, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Dale Burgett of Canton, IL and one sister, Willa Golden of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Mr. Burgett was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana. He served in the Navy from 1941 – 1945. He worked at Illinois Power in Havana, retiring as a supervisor. Private graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Marigold Health Care Center or to Harbor Light Hospice. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
