Howard S. White
1915 - 2007

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Havana and US Army Veteran serving in WWII in the 35th Division, where he was wounded and received a purple heart in 1945. A charter member of the Havana Optimist Club, a member of Havana Lodge #88 AF & AM, Knight Templars and the Mahomet Shrine in Peoria, he was active most of his life in the Izaak Walton League serving as its National Legal Council many years, the national board of directors, Illinois State President and two years as National President. He was a graduate of Havana High School, attended Illinois College two years and transferred to the University of Illinois where he received his law degree. He practiced law from 1946 with his partner, Guy R. Williams for many years in Havana until he was appointed a Judge in the 8th Judicial District in 1979 where he served until he retired in 1986. He did practice law again after his retirement from the judgeship.
Judge White is survived by his wife, one son, Robert (Linda) White of Normal, IL; one daughter, Billie Jane (Berrie) Reed of Gurnee, IL, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One sister, Mildred (Don) Specketer of Havana also survives.
