James Skaggs

1940-2010

James Edward Skaggs was born July 8, 1940 the son of G.H. and Grace McCubbin Skaggs at the Lincoln hospital in Lincoln, IL.  He passed away on Sunday January 31, 2010 in the Winter Haven Florida Hospital. 

He is survived by his wife: Mary Lumsden Skaggs.  Three sisters: Margret Lynn of Mason City, IL, Mildred (Ed) Sheary of Mason City, IL and Ornetta (John) Perce of San Jose, IL.  Three daughters: Shannon (Steve) Davin of Pekin, IL, Trish (Rob) Shelby of Macomb, IL and Amanda Skaggs of Springfield, IL,  nine grandchildren and one great grandson.  He was preceded in death by one daughter: Jamie Skaggs Kesterkey, his parents and special brother-in-laws: Bud Horner, Homer Lynn and Jim Brewer.   

Jack was retired from the telephone company of GTE-Continental-Verizon.  Having worked in the Mason City-Greenview-Bath-Kilbourne and Carthidge offices.  He loved horses and horse racing, camping, woodworking and golf.  Spending the winters in Florida where he worked at the Willowbrook Golf Course. 

He belonged to the Greenview Masonic Lodge #653, the Ansar Shrine of Springfield, Illinois and the New Salem Shrine Club and held his 32^nd degree. 

Memorials may be made to the Shrine Children’s Hospital. 

A Celebration of Life was held on February 24^th at the Lucerne Lakeside Community Clubhouse where he lived.  A visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City Illinois on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at the Mason City Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning May 15^th.
