Havana, IL - James D. Stelter, 66 of Havana, Illinois passed away Friday August 4, 2006 at St Francis Medical Center in Peoria at 3:16 pm. Jim was born November 20, 1939 at Canton, IL to Louis H. And Cecelia Fisk Stelter. He married Lela Riebling August 28, 1965 in Havana, Illinois, She survives as do his parents of Havana, Illinois. Also surviving is 1 son Eric Stelter(companion Barbara Burgett) Havana,Illinois , 1 daughter Lisa Marie (Ardem) Alton of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Two grandchildren Gabrielle and Connor .Two sisters Jean (James) McNally of Morton,Ill. and Jan (Bruce) Coggins of San Diego, CA and 3 Nieces and 1 Nephew. He was preceded in death by infant daughter Angela. Jim was of the Catholic faith.

He belonged to Havana American Legion Post 138 and was serving as post adjutant and was a past commander. He was a member of Havana Post 6408 VFW and was serving as post chaplin. He was a member of the Mason County Farm Bureau, and was a former Havana City Alderman and a member of the Havana Odd Fellows.

Jim was a Korean War Veteran serving with the U,S. Army in Germany. He attended Roat grade school and graduated from Havana High School in 1957 and Western Illinois Univ. ,in 1961 with a degree in Ag business. He farmed for over 40 years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday Aug. 8, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Havana conducted by Pastor Dave Byrd. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Joint military services will be held at the cemetery by Post #138 American Legion and Post #6408 VFW. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 pm Mon. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
