Herschel Jay Shilling

Herschel Jay Shilling, 79, of Havana, passed away at Havana Health Care Center at 5:50 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010. He was born July 27, 1930 in Browning, IL to Forrest and Coyle (Woodard) Shilling. He married Donna Hibbert on October 24, 1954 in Havana. She survives.
Mr. Shilling is survived by his wife, Donna, of Havana, one granddaughter, Stephanie Bump of Ohio and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters: Ruth Irene Shilling, Mary Jane Snider, Jim Shilling, Virginia “Jenna” Richardson, Evelyn Madson, Jack Shilling, Jean Richardson, two sons, Alan Jay Shilling, Doug Shilling and one daughter, Lori Shilling.
Mr. Shilling served in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He retired from Staley’s Construction Materials in Canton after 21 years.
Funeral services will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Warren Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. A luncheon will be served at the Church of Christ following the burial.
