Joan “Joannie” Carol Summers, 72, of Chandlerville, passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield at 3:12 a.m. on Friday, September 03, 2010. She was born October 6, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to Russ and Midge (Dameworth) Grob. She married Edward Fortman and he preceded her in death. She married Allen “Duke” Summers on April 13, 1978 in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1992.

Joannie is survived by one daughter, Debbie Fortman, of Chandlerville, granddaughter, Fadra Hepner and great grandchildren, Asher and Lydia Hepner, all of Columbia, MO. Also surviving is one son, Ed Fortman of St. Louis, granddaughter, Crystal Fortman of San Diego, CA, grandson James Fortman of St. Louis, and one great-grandson. She has one brother, Gary Grob, of DeSoto, MO who also survives. She was preceded in death by her husbands and parents.

Joannie had owned and operated Duke and Joannie’s Saloon in Chandlerville since 1984.

Visitation will be held at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Burial will follow the services at Bethel Cemetery near Chandlerville.
