John Harp Jr.
1914-2009
John Harp Jr, 95, formally of Easton, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center. John was born March 8, 1914 in Logan County to John and Nellie Mae Raber Harp. He married Edith Ackley on January 26, 1937 in Petersburg. She passed away November 24, 1999. John is survived by two sons, Merle Harp of Petersburg and Ronald (Joyce) Harp of Auburn and one daughter Betty Jo Imperial of Bridgman, MI. Also, two adopted grandsons, Jim Harp of Summit, MS and Marty (Kelly) Harp of Mason City. In addition he had ten other grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Bill of Mason City and one sister Nellie Jean Davis of Springfield. John was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. John worked for 30 years as a carpenter and handyman for John Hubly of Greenview. He worked in the parts department for five years at Cutler and Hammer in Lincoln, IL. He then worked for 22 years for Fager Lumber and Hardware Store in Easton, IL until they closed their doors July of 1996. He was also a dairy farmer. John was of the Penticostal Faith. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Astoria Gardens and Rehab Center, 1008 E. Broadway, Astoria, IL 61501. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is handling the arrangements. |
