John E. Ackerman

1945 - 2007

John E. Ackerman, 61, of Chandlerville, died at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield at 7:04 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007. He was born, November 14, 1945 in Alton, IL to Elmer and Bertha (Hogle) Ackerman. He married Cindy Pherigo at Bethel Baptist Church on August 9, 1975.

Mr. Ackerman is survived by his mother of Virginia, his wife of Chandlerville, five sons: John Ackerman Jr. of Mt. Sterling, IL, Daniel Ackerman of Baton Rouge, LA, Joseph (Amanda Vancil) Ackerman of Virginia, Joshua (Kate) Ackerman of Virginia, and Justin Ackerman of Murrayville. Also surviving are three brothers: Ken (Della) Ackerman, Mark (Joanne) Ackerman and Jim (Nancy) Ackerman, all of Virginia, two sisters: Karen Ackerman of Virginia, and Jolene (Lonnie) HInkel of Dongola, IL, seven grandchildren: Lanca, Shelby, Blaine, Blair, Gavin, Samantha, Kennon and his family is expecting on more soon. He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Ackerman is a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the American Legion, Chandlerville Lions Club, a Boy Scout leader with the Order of the Arrow, Chandlerville Fire Dept., Native American Dance Team Member, member of The Northern Cherokee Nation of Old Louisiana Territory, and helped the Marine Toys for Tots Program. He served his country in the Marines from 1965 – 1971. He was retired from McLean Forge in Havana where he worked as a machinist.

Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church at Chandlerville on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville on Saturday, Sept. 1 from 5 – 7 p.m. Burial will follow the services at Bethel Cemetery. Rev. Rick Hoheimer will officiate.
