John F. Hinds 1932 - 2007
John F. Hinds, 75, of Petersburg, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Friday November 23, 2007 at his residence. He was born July 31, 1932 in Illiopolis, the son of Frederick and Willahemina Hild Hinds. Mr. Hinds married Lois Etherton on November 12, 1955 in Buffalo, Illinois. He is survived by his wife Lois of Petersburg; three daughters Pamela (Bill) Marcy, Cynthia (Chris) Lachel, both of Petersburg and Linda (David) Hicks of Springfield; six grandchildren, Adam Sisk, Erika Brock, Ryan Hinds, Adara Sisk, Ethan Sisk, and Haley Hicks; one great granddaughter Grace Brock, and one brother Jacob (Charlotte) Hinds of Springfield. Mr. Hinds was preceded in death by his parents, one son Douglas Frederick Hinds, and two sisters. He is a U.S. Army veteran. He was retired from the Springfield Fire Department after 25 ½ years as a driver engineer, and belonged to Springfield Fire Fighter’s IAFF Local 37. He also worked as a packer and driver for Underfanger Mayflower for many years. He was a current member of the Retired Fire Fighters Association, and the Menard County Youth Mentoring program. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 28, 2007 at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Cliff Presley officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 27, 2007 also at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
