John L. Ogden

1931 - 2008

Chandlerville, IL - John L. Ogden, 77, of Chandlerville passed away at 2:19 pm Thurs., Dec. 4, 2008 at his residence. He was born Feb. 1, 1931 in Oakford, IL the son of Howard and Pauline Stockham Ogden. He first married Barbara Lynn Oct. 4, 1948 in Carthage, IL and she preceded him in death Nov. 23, 1996. He later married Frances "Bonnie" Busby, Feb. 15, 1998 in Chandlerville and she survives.

Mr. Ogden was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Prairieland Heritage Museum in Jacksonville. He was a retired miner and welder.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Lynette (Danny) Rich and Connie (Darrell) Rich both of Chandlerville, Sheila (Gil) Shilling of Wasilla, AK; four sons, Wendell "Barney" (Jane) Ogden of Allerton, IA, Michael Alan (Yvonne) Ogden of Beardstown, Dean Ogden of Galesburg and David "Pat" (Krista) Ogden of Allerton, IA. One step-son, Clarence "Jim" (Sharon) Busby of Beardtown and two step-daughters, Brenda (Calvin) Bollin of Nauvoo, IL and Rhonda (Milton) Garrett or Mora, NM and three sisters; Charlotte (Jim) Towery of Havana, Jean (Virgil) Burgett of Lewistown, and Judy (Larry) Windsor of Ipava also survive. In addition Mr. Ogden has eighteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, six step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one great granddaughter.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday Dec. 8, 2008 at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville conducted by Rev. Norman Fletcher. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery rural Chandlerville.
