John L. "Pete" Peterson
1922 - 2011
John L. “Pete” Peterson, 89, of Ipava, formerly of Danville, passed away at his home at 11:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011. He was born April 3, 1922 in Neoga, IL to Grover and May Peterson. He married Hazel Thomas on July 8, 1950 in Paris, IL. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2001.
Mr. Peterson is survived by two sons, John and Richard Peterson and daughter, Peggy. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, brother, Allan and two sisters, Rosemary and Alice. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Peterson served in the US Army from 1944 until 1946 during WWII and was stationed in Germany. He worked at Laverenz Electric in Danville for 20 years, owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Tavern in Topeka for 7 years, worked at the Power House in Havana for 1 ½ years and in Pekin for 1 ½ years. He was a member of IBEW since 1946. He was a lineman for 9 years and took his examination in 1955 to become an inside electrician. He retired in 1983. He had been a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana with visitation two hours prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. David Utt will officiate.
