Julius Herman (Jule) Stelter, 99, of Havana passed away at 8:07 A.M. on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Mason District Hospital in Havana.  He was born January 27, 1910 in Havana , the son of Henry and Hannah (Wallbaum) Stelter.  He married Irma Speckman on January 17, 1940, and she passed away on February 23, 2008.  
 
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, the Laurel Hill Cemetery Association, the Midwest Equipment Dealer Association, and was honored as the Havana Citizen of the Year for 2000.  He was a sixty-four year member of the Havana Rotary Club, and the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self" was the way he lived his life.  He was presented the Rotary's Paul Harris Award in 1985. 
 
Jule loved farming and was known as one of the "Pioneers of Irrigation" in the Mason County area.  For years, he has planted a turnip patch on his farm for anyone in the area that would enjoy them.
 
He was co-owner of Stelter-Hofreiter, Inc. in Havana, having been in the farm equipment business since 1936.  He also sold Pontiac cars for thirty years.
 
He is survived by two daughters, Donna and Diane Stelter, both of Havana, one brother, Henry Stelter of Muncie, Indiana and one sister, Irma Fawley of Bartonville, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Herbert and Louis of Havana, an infant brother, Robert, and one sister, Marie Blessman of Western Springs, Illinois.
 
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 24, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, conducted by Pastor Martin W. Liebmann.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at his church (from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.)  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to the Mason District Hospital.  Hurley Funeral Home, Havana, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hurleyfh.com.
