Karen Sue Hollis-Gebhards

Karen Sue Hollis-Gebhards, 64, of Oakford died on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at her residence. She was born on November 27, 1943 in Springfield to Herschel and Catherine Miller Hollis. She married Max Gebhards on June 22, 1963 in Petersburg.
She is survived by her husband Max of Oakford; her mother, Catherine Hollis of Petersburg; a niece, Julie Trevidi of Eau Claire, WI; two nephews, Kyle King of Aurora, IL and Doug Hollis of Springfield; a sister, Sandra (Mark) Bouillon of Carlinville; and a brother Steve (Gina) Hollis of Petersburg.
One brother, Harold, and her father preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in running the family farm.
Karen was a very caring person, continuously looking for ways to service her family and community. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and had served on its board in various positions. She also volunteered at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield for 10 years where she assisted families in the recovery waiting room. During the 70’s she was instrumental in sponsoring a refugee Vietnamese family in Petersburg. Mrs. Hollis-Gebhards was also on the Sunny Acres Home advisory board for many years. Continuing to serve to her family and community, she has chosen to donate her body to science.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. Rev. Julie Peterson will be officiating. Friends may pay respects to her family at the church from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m.
