Don F. King
1921-2009 Don F. King, 88, of Mason City passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. He was born April 14, 1921 the only son of Fred W. and Nellie M. (Mangold) King. He married Grace K. Onken on September 24, 1944. He will be missed and is survived by his wife, Grace; sister, Wanda Horst; two sons, Jerry (Karen) King of Virginia, IL., Larry (Denise) King of Mason City and daughter Kelley (Bob) Tierney of Cornland. Six grandchildren, Maggie (Chris) Weidler of Chatham, Kate (Sam) Almengor of Abingdon MD, Seth (Desiree) King of Rochester, Jacob (Sarah) Tierney of Lincoln, Nathaniel (Fiancé Sarah Petrosky) of Chatham and Gracie Tierney of Cornland. Two great granddaughters, Lilly and Molly Weidler of Chatham, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marvel Heinhorst and Mardelle Arnold. Don graduated from Mason City High School. He was a farmer and also sold Funks Seed Corn. He was a member of Mason City Christian church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was a past member of the San Jose school board and San Jose volunteer fire dept. He was a master carpenter and was a self taught musician. He was a past member of the clown band. He was a member of the Greenview Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Temple in Springfield. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00. Pastor Joe Briseno will officiate. Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Midwest Affiliate. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of handling the arrangements.
