Leona M. Hughes

(1923-2011)

Leona M. Hughes, 87, of Mason City, died at 6:15pm on July 21, 2011 at the Mason City Area Nursing Home.  She was born on September 7, 1923 the daughter of Charles and Marie (Prince) Deckard in Greenview, IL.  Leona married Kenneth Hughes on September 6, 1942, he survives.

Leona is also survived by; one daughter: Sandy (Mike) Pryor of Mapleton; one son: Gary (Virginia) Hughes of Mason City.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother: Charles (Bud) Deckard; and five sisters: Virginia Beauchamp, Ruth Ann Melton, Frances Moore, Marian Case and Janet O’Brien.  She was preceded in death by one brother.

Leona graduated from Greenview High School; she was a member of the Mason City Community Chapel and Mason County Homemakers.  She was a past Diocese of the Christian Church and worked for State of Illinois for DCFS. 

Funeral services will be at 3:00pm, on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, Pastor Curt McCallister will officiate.  Burial will take place at Mason City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5-7 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be left to her church or Mason City Area Nursing Home.  Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
