Havana, IL - Dr. Leonard David Goranson, 93, of 201 S. Orange St., Havana, IL formerly of Eau Claire, WI, died at 8:10 pm Mon. April 10, 2006 at the Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born Aug. 25, 1912 in Joliet, IL the son of David and Amanda Magnuson Goranson. He married Edith Melander June 20, 1942 in Duluth, MN. She passed away Jan. 13, 2000.

Dr. Goranson was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Hallie, WI and attended the Havana Church of Christ. He earned a Dr. of Divinity from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He began his career as Pastor of the Methodist Church in North Branch, MN. He later served the Bethany Baptist Church in Iowa City, IA. As his career progressed he earned both a Master’s Degree and PhD from the Univ. of Iowa at Iowa City in Geography. Dr. Goranson retired in 1983 after many years teaching first at Southern States Teacher’s College in Magnolia, AR and lastly as Professor Emeritus at the Univ. Of Wisconsin in Eau Claire. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He was drafted on VE Day and served with the occupation forces in Germany.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Chave of Havana, IL and Carol (Ray) Muller of Bertha, MN, one son, Dr. Kenneth (Kerrie) Goranson of Los Altos Hills, CA, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 pm Wed. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Fri. April 14, 2006 at the Grace Baptist Church of Hallie, near Eau Claire conducted by Pastor Brian Jahn with visitation one hour prior to the service at his church. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Med/Surg unit of Mason District Hospital in Havana or to the Grace Baptist Church of Hallie. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
