Louis Stelter

1915 - 2006

Havana, IL - Louis Stelter, 91, of 18447 Hahn Stelter Rd., Havana, passed away at 4:45 am Mon. Sept. 11, 2006. He was born Feb. 6, 1915 in Havana the son of Henry and Hannah Wallbaum Stelter. He married Cecelia Fisk Jan. 5, 1937 in Havana and she survives.

Mr. Stelter farmed for over 70 years in Mason County. He was one of the pioneers in irrigation in Mason County having the first irrigation well in the county. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana, The Mason County Farm Bureay, the irrigated growers, the Freedom Club, and the Fuddy Duddys.

He is survived by two daughters, Jean (James) McNally of Morton, IL and Jan (Bruce) Coggins of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Julius (Irma) Stelter of Havana and Henry Stelter of Muncie, IN and one sister, Irma Fawley of Peoria, IL. Mr. Stelter was preceded in death by one son, James; one grandson; two brothers and one sister.

Services will be at 10:00 am Thurs. Sept. 14, 2006 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana conducted by Pastor John H. Beiderwieden and Pastor Martin W. Liebmann, Jr. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Havana. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
