Lyle I. Petty
1924 - 2012

Havana, IL
– Lyle I. Petty, 87 of Havana passed away at 6:00 pm Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at
the Swedish-American Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born April 5, 1924 in
Topeka, IL the son of Charles and Clara (Vance) Petty. He Married Lorraine Fry
in 1944 and she preceded him in death in 1997. He married Jean Fry in 1999 and
she preceded him in death in 2008.
Mr. Petty was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in
Havana, a veteran of the US Coast Guard serving in WWII on AKA 63 Thienem, and a
member of American Legion Post #138 in Havana. He was a supervisor for AMF
Bowling Equipment Company, retiring in 1987 after 32 years with the company. He
loved fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by one son; William “Bill” (Nancy) Petty of
Maryland, three daughters; Diane (Larry) Kantrovich of Poplar Grove, IL, Barbara
Palms of Poplar Grove, IL and Patricia (Richard) Franz of Davis Junction, IL;
seventeen grandchildren: Lyle, Kari Jo, Cheryl, Charles, Matt, Brian, Karen,
Charlotte, Lila, Tammy, Dale, Rachael, Vincent, Chuck, Chris, Jon, Scott,
Elizabeth and thirty great grandchildren: Lindsay, Jenna, Lauren Lucas, Naomi,
Bryan, Amanda, Eli, Nahum, Jacob, Rebecca, Ben, Sam, Valerie, Patience, Jordan,
Bryce, Jazmin, Ashley, Andrew, Benjamin, Christina, Morgan, Lilliham, Kathrina,
Glenn Jr., Christina, Felicia, Samantha, Bradley, Mikayla, Madelyn and Zander.
Also surviving are three brothers; Charles ( Martha) Petty of Overland Park,
Kansas, James Petty of Forest City, IL, Dean (Carol) Petty of Havana and three
sisters; Eva Flaharty of Havana, Beulah Haage of Tucson, AZ and Marilyn (Wayne)
Shafer of Pekin, IL. He was preceded in death by one daughter Linda, one son,
Thomas, one brother, Russell and two sisters, Lillian Bassett and Clarabelle
Hall as well as two grandchildren, Sharon and Daniel, four great grandchildren,
Jamie, Adam, Daniel and Kaitlyn.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana conducted by Pastor Wesley Reimnitz with
burial to follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery at Manito, IL. Visitation will be
held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Monday at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana and one
hour prior to the service on Tuesday at his church. Memorial contributions may
