M. Lucille Raffety

(1911 - 2009)
M. Lucille Raffety, 97, of Tallula, passed away peacefully at her home,
Monday October 12, 2009.
Martha Lucille Raffety was born November 30, 1911 in Virgina, Illinois
to Jessie and Martha Helen England
Fox.
Lucille attended Western
Illinois University at Macomb. She taught school a total of 41
years, including Virginia and Philadelphia
rural schools of Panther Grove from 1931 to 1940, Centenary 1940-1948 and at
Tallula Grade School until her retirement in 1972. She influenced hundreds
of students, especially in Math, Science, and Art.
Lucille married John Raffety June 29, 1940 in St.
Louis. They made their home in Tallula. He preceded her in
death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister
in infancy.
Lucille was instrumental in starting the Tallula Senior
Citizens Center having written the grants to get the center started and
served as past president. She also served on the state board of Project
Life.
Lucille was active and held various offices of the Tallula
Christian Church, American
Legion Auxilary, 20th District American Legion, Tallula Home Extension,
and the Illinois Education Association. She also enjoyed playing bridge.
Lucille was very generous to several organizations, and gave of her time,
talent, and resources.
She will be missed by many cousins, close friends, and former students,
including Godson Larry
Lane Adams of California,
and Lucky her cat.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17,at 11:00 at the Tallula
Christian Church, visitation will be one hour prior. Burial willl be in
Greenwood Cemetery in Tallula. Hurley Funeral Home of Petersburg is in charge of
arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Tallula Senior Citizens Center, Memorial
Medical Center Hospice or Menard Animal Protection.
