Marie Fouts

1909-2009

Marjorie Marie Fouts, 100, of Mason City, passed away at 7:26 am Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Mason City Area Nursing Home.  Marie was born on July 26, 1909 to Ira Rexford and Josephine Mae (Fletcher) Smith in Mason City, Illinois.  She married Bayne Fouts on May 16, 1930 in Pekin, IL.  He preceded her in death on January 24, 1984. 

Surviving are two daughters: Wilma Aileen (Jack) Ridner of Germantown, TN and Enola Mae Becker of Mason City, IL.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, one brother and one sister.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters. 

Marie was a member of the Mason City Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Mason City Women’s Club as well as an active member of the Home Extension and DAR groups. 

Marie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved to travel.  She excelled at all kinds of crafts and cooking; she was a blue ribbon winner for her candy and cakes at the Illinois State Fair. Always ready for a card game; she loved to keep everyone around the table with either playing games or enjoying her wonderful home cooked meals. 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.  Nash Shawgo will be officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Activities Department at Mason City Area Nursing Home, Mason City Baptist Church or Donor’s Choice.
