Marie C. Liesman

1925 - 2008

Marie Clare Liesman, 82, of Mason City passed away at her daughter’s home on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at 11:00 p.m. She was born December 18, 1925 in Emden, IL to Dena Terviel. She married Wesley “Fizzle” Liesman on August 15, 1943. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2005.

Mrs. Liesman is survived by two daughters, Ronda Reuss of Littleton, CO, Sue Liesman of Mason City, one son, Roger Liesman of Mason City, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, son-in-law Richard E. Reuss, and one grandson Jeff Reuss and his wife Andrea Reuss.

Mrs. Liesman was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Mason City, where she had served on the Dorcas Society and as a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher for 40 years. As teacher, she enjoyed teaching the kids, “This Little Gospel Light of Mine.” Many of her students later recalled that she was the reason that they enjoyed coming to Sunday School and always looked forward to her treats. She acted as leader of the 4-H Stitch and Stir Club for several years and was active in the 4-H Pleasant Worker Club. She also worked for several years at Johnson’s Clothing Store and Johnson’s Super Value in Mason City as a clerk. 

Funeral services will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church in Mason City on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Rev. John Johnson and Nash Shawgo will officiate.
