Marilyn J. Dennis (1929-2008) Marilyn J. Dennis, 79, of San Jose, IL passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 5:50p.m. at Pekin Manor Nursing Home in Pekin. She was born June 26, 1929 in Emden, IL to Harry A. Hitchcock and Anna (Wiekert) Hitchcock. She married James F. Dennis on February 20, 1949 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, IL, Jim passed away on April 30, 1987.
Survivors include two children, Frances A. Long of San Jose, IL and Doug (Karla) Dennis of Manito, IL; four grandchildren Daniel (Jen) Long of Crystal Lake, IL, Heather J. Long of San Jose, IL, Ehren Hoppe of Manito and Brad (Heather) Long of Kenosha, WI; one brother, Don (Phyllis) Hitchcock of Emden, IL; one sister in law and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Jimmie Lee Dennis; and one brother. After graduating from Hartsburg-Emden high school, Marilyn worked many office positions including State Farm, Hanson’s Dairy, Allen Elevator and San Jose High School where she retired. She then worked for the Banner Times and MC Nursing Home where she was known as Grandma to all and was known for her wonderful vegetable soup!
Marilyn and Jim loved to dance, and belonged to several dance groups.
Marilyn was a member of Allen’s Grove Township Board for many years and also served as an election judge for San Jose. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, San Jose, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and sang in the choir for many years.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in San Jose, IL. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 and one hour prior to the services. Pastor Derek Riddle will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice. Hurley Funeral Home in San Jose is in charge of arrangements.
