Marquerite Elaine Hampton

1919 - 2006

Chandlerville, IL - Marquerite Elaine Hampton, 86, of Chandlerville passed away at 7:36 pm Wed. Sept. 6, 2006 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born Dec. 12, 1919 in Chandlerville the daughter of Marion Henry and Flora Gurnsey Hohimer. She married George Wade Hampton Oct. 1, 1938 in Palmyra, MO and he died Dec. 12, 1991.

Mrs. Hampton graduated from Chandlerville High School in 1937, was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Chandlerville, Cass County Mental Health Board, the Cass County Home Extension and the Chandlerville Woman’s Club. She retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid in 1981.

She is survived by four daughters, Donna Jean (Don) Whitehouse of Bloomington, IL; Kae (Darrel) Hunt and Wadine Mibb of Chandlerville, IL and Ruth (Wiley) Sanders of Adkins, TX. Also surviving are five grandsons, Greg Gazelle of Jacksonville, Fl; Stacey Hunt of Tucson, AZ; Marc Sanders of Houston, TX; Matthew Sanders of Scottsdale. AZ and Jake Mibb of Naperville, IL; three granddaughters, Jodi Morgan of Chesterton, IN; Amy Mibb of Springfield, IL; and Amanda Mibb of Chandlerville; two great granddaughters, Bobbi Gazelle of Bloomington, IL and Jamie Gazelle of Jacksonville, FL; four great grandsons, Luke and Nic Morgan of Chesterton, IN; Dakota and Dillion Hunt of Tucson AZ; and one great great granddaughter, Candyce Evans of Bloomington, IL. She was preceded in death by one sister and her parents.

Services will be held at 10:00 am Sat. Sept. 9, 2006 at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville conducted by Gerald Bacon. Burial will be in the Chandlerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or PATH, a crisis hot-line, 201 E.
