Havana, IL - Marvel Lee Mendenhall, 76, of Havana, passed away at 1:00 am Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was born August 7, 1933 in Topeka, IL the daughter of Henry John and Veda E. Pemberton Strube. She married Robert H. Mendenhall Oct. 7, 1956 in Havana and he preceded her in death Sept. 1, 2002.

Mrs. Mendenhall was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana, Lakewood Ladies Golf Association, St. Paul’s Ladies Aid, Mason District Hospital Volunteer, Mason County Farm Burea,. Central Illinois Irrigated Growers Assoc., Women in Networking, Havana Women’s Bowling Assoc., and she was an avid golfer and lover of people and her family. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Western Union in Chicago, and later worked as the church secretary at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church until she retired in June of 1991.

She is survived by one son; Todd (Joy) Mendenhall of Havana and one daughter Kelly Mendenhall of Peoria, IL, three grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Marvin Strube, and one sister Carmen McCarthy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wed. April 28, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana conducted by Pastor Martin W. Liebmann with burial to follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Havana. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
