Mattie E. "Mickey" Short (1913 - 2008)
Mattie E. “Micky” Short, 95, of Petersburg died December 24, 2008 at St. Johns Hospice. She was born January 27, 1913, In Ellsworth, IL to Elmer and Stella Holliday Quinn. She married Lyle H. Short August 29, 1932 in Decatur. She is survived by her daughter Jill (husband Dean) Schafer
of Sterling, Four grandchildren, Douglas Schafer of Moline, Lori (husband Jim)
Baumgart of Sterling, Beth Schafer of Champaign, and Ryan (wife Sandy) Schafer
of Edmond, OK. Seven great-grandchildren, and one sister Vivian Wyckoff of
Bloomington, and nieces and nephews. Her husband, one brother, and two sisters precede her in death. Mattie was a member of the First Christian Church in
Petersburg, a member of the choir, women’s club, and the Historical Society.
She loved playing bridge, and golf. Services will be held Monday December 29, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church in Petersburg with Eddie Bratton officiating. Visitation will be held also at the church prior to the service from 9:30 am until 11:00 am Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorials may be to the Lyle Short Educational Scholarship
Fund, or to the First Christian Church. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is in charge of
arrangements.
