Nelson "Mick" Morris 1920 - 2007
Nelson “Mick” Morris, 87, of Pekin, IL, formerly of Havana, died at Timber Creek Rehab & Health in Pekin at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007. He was born February 23, 1920 in Mason County to Emmett and Augusta (Green) Morris. He married Vera Rogers on September 26, 1950. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1978. Mr. Morris is survived by one sister: Mabel Messman of Pekin, one step-son Bob Coon of Florida and eleven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister. Mr. Morris was retired from his position of Post Master of Topeka, that he had held for 28 years. He served his country in the Army from 1943-1945, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals for his efforts. Graveside services will be held at Presbyterian Cemetery near Topeka at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2007, with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Pastor Dave Byrd will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Havana Legion Post or Havana VFW Post #6408. Online memorial messages may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com.
