Michael Alexander Nykanen, 61, of San Jose, IL died at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 1:15 p.m. He was born January 14, 1946 in Detroit, MI to Floyd James and Olga (Erchol) Nykanen. He married Nancy Smith on December 23, 1987 in Mission Viejo, CA.

Mr. Nykanen is survived by his wife Nancy of San Jose, IL one son: Michael (Toni) Nykanen Jr. of Rochester Hills, MI; two daughters: Stephanie (Todd) Shattuck of Clawson, MI and Susanne (David) Brown of Shawnee, OK; two stepsons: James (Jenny) Wise of Jakarta, Indonesia, Craig (Korena) Prather of Woodbridge, VA, six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Daniel Nykanen of Troy, MI and James Nykanen of Phoenix, AZ and sister: Mary Beth Duchateau of Ypsilanti, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.

Mr. Nykanen was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Air Corps, serving for four years in Viet Nam. He was a member of the San Jose United Methodist Church. Mr. Nykanen was employed by Mason District Hospital in Havana, IL as director of Planned Operations.

Graveside services will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose, IL on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Stephen E. King will officiate.
