Nelda C. Friedrich 1910 - 2010 Nelda C. Friedrich, 99, of Havana, passed away at Mason District Hospital in Havana at 3:14 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. She was born in Crane Creek Township to William and Wilhemina (Koke) Umland on August 19, 1910. She married Harold R. Friedrich on April 16, 1931 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Bath, IL. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1992. Nelda is survived by two daughters, Marjorie (Kenneth) Smith of Easton and Patricia (Donald) Neuman of La Mesa, CA, 3 grandsons, Jeff (Mary Beth) Smith, Kim (Elizabeth) Smith and Eric (Lydia) Neuman and one granddaughter, Jodi (Patrick) Rea. She is also survived by 5 great grandsons, 4 great granddaughters and 2 great-great grandchildren. Nelda and Harold farmed in the Delavan and Easton areas prior to retiring in 1968 to the community of Havana. Nelda was very active in Havana’s St. Paul’s Lutheran Ladies Aid and especially enjoyed the church group who prepared rag rugs. She was a leader of the Chaney Happy Hour 4-H Club for many years. The County Unit of Home Bureau brought her much pleasure and many long enduring friendships. Nelda did sewing, mending and alterations in her home for many years. She was a very skilled embroiderer and cross-stitcher and enjoyed making things for her family. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the services at the church from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. Martin W. Liebmann Jr. will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to Mason District Hospital.
