Lu Nelda Grammer

1928 - 2011

Lu Nelda Grammer, 83, of Manito, formerly of Havana, passed away at her son’s home in Havana at 6:40 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011. She was born January 13, 1928 in Manito, to Charles and Luella (Reed) Endicott. She married Chester Allen and later married James Grammer. They both preceded her in death.


Mrs. Grammer is survived by two sons, Dwight (Rose) Allen of Havana, David (Carla) Allen of Pekin, four daughters, Sharyn (Bill) Hurd of Springfield, Patricia (Leonard) Spraggs and Lea (Jeff) Searcy, both of Manito, Janice (Nick) Nicholson as well as 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Greg, 11 brothers and sisters, and her parents.


Mrs. Grammer was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Havana. She was also an avid gardener and loved to cook.


Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00, also at the funeral home with an additional hour of visitation prior to the services. Rev. Darrel Auten will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
