Phillip T. Steele, 89,
of Havana died on Thursday, February 02, 2006 at 7:00 a.m.
at Havana Health Care Center. He was born on May 9, 1916 to
John and Mary (Selby) Steele at Chrisman, IL. He married
Beverly J. Haslam on April 30, 1955 at the 1st
Methodist Church in Havana.
He is survived by his
wife of Havana, one sister Betty Lou Kiser of Lawrenceville,
IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Steele, as a
civilian, taught flying lessons at the US Air Force, worked
as the Superintendent of Ways LST Shipyard in Evansville,
IN. He worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron and the Illinois
Power Company for 27 years. He was a member of the 1st
United Methodist Church of Havana, where he was a member of
the church board and taught Sunday School. He served on the
IBEW Board for ten years.
Cremation rites have
been accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later
date. Memorials may be made to Best Friends Animal Shelter
or to his church.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sat. March 11, 2006 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana conducted by Rev. Robert Smith. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Shelter or the First United Methodist Church in Havana.
