Havana, IL -Raymond Joe Towery, 66, of Havana, IL passed away at 8:28 pm Mon. Nov. 20, 2006 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. He was born Dec. 10, 1939 in Havana, IL the son of Lee Roy and Sylvia H. Peters Towery. He married Peggy Yocum July 29, 1961 in Lewistown, IL and she survives.

He was a member of Central Christian Church of Havana, Lions Club of Paxton, IL, Harrisburg IL VFW and American Legion, First President of KARE (camping and recreational experiences for the challenged), Special Olympics Coach for many years and served in the US Marines in Vietnam from 1957 until 1960 and the US Air Force from 1961 until 1965.

Mr. Towery is survived by two sons, Randy Lee (Vicky) Towery of Canton and Raymond Joe Towery, Jr of Annapolis, MD; one daughter, Lindy Towery of Canton and three grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Sue (Jon) Poler of Havana, Elizabeth (Jerry) Edwards of Canton, IL and Bessie Gietl of Springfield, IL; and three brothers, John (Marge) Towery of Chandlerville, IL; Ronald (Linda) Towery of Harrisburg, IL and Richard of Urbana, Ohio. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Dean, Jack, James, David and Eugene and two sisters, Marilyn Odgen and Rose Fisk.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church, KARE, the Special Olympics, or the Cancer Foundation.
