Richard "Dick" J. Baur

(1946 - 2008)

Richard “Dick” J. Baur, 62, died on December 16, 2008 at his home in rural Petersburg having lost his battle with brain cancer. He was born January 29, 1946 in Chicago, IL. He was the son of the late James and Anna Havlatko Baur. On July 15, 1989, Dick married Sharon Baucom.

Dick was the beloved husband of Sharon, loving father of Christopher (Cara) and Molly Gregory Baur, dear grandfather of Ruth Baur and Nicholas Gregory; fond brother of Marion Kovac (Len), Sheboygan, WI, Arlene Rategan (Joe), Orland Park, Judith Fierst (Ted), Lake City, MN; also dear step-father of Douglas Baucom, Dallas, TX; Bradley Baucom; Seattle, WA, and Julie Hoffmann of Dallas, TX.  Dick also has three step grandsons, two step granddaughters, 16 nieces and nephews, all surviving.

Dick received his BA degree in Biology in 1967 from St. Mary’s College, Winona, MN and MS degree in Fisheries Biology in 1969 from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. He conducted fisheries research for the Illinois Natural History Survey at the Sam A. Parr Fisheries Research Center in Marion County Illinois and was the statewide fisheries resource analyst/planner for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Springfield, IL. His love of nature continued after retirement, spending many hours outdoors, creating art with natural materials and wood carving.

Dick was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Knight’s of Columbus. He was an Eagle Scout and earned the highest Catholic scouting award, the Ad Altare Dei.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL, Sunday December 21, 2008. Funeral services will begin at 10am at St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg, IL on Monday December 22, 2008. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peter Catholic Church.
