Richard "Dick" Cheaney

(1918 - 2009)

 

 

Richard “Dick” Donald Cheaney, 91, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at 9:29 p.m., at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on February 9, 1918 in Petersburg to Donald and Helen Whiteneck Cheaney. He married Carol Stevens on September 22, 1940 in Greenview.

 

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Petersburg; a son, Richard D. (Phyllis) Cheaney, Jr. of Springfield; a daughter, Bobbie (Nolan) Lipsky of Petersburg; a grandson, Ryan J. Reguly of Springfield; and two brothers, John (Shirley) Klingbeil of Springfield and Edward (Vera) Klingbeil of Salem.

 

Two sisters, Margaret Crisler and Mary Lou Bolin, preceded him in death.

 

He was a self-employed businessman, and also drove a school bus for PORTA School District for many years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church in Petersburg.

 

Mr. Cheaney was an Eagle Scout. He was active in the Kiwanis Club for many years and was a charter member of the Shambolee Golf Course. He loved watching PORTA football and basketball, and also the Fighting Illini.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church in Petersburg. Pastor Dan Roseberry will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Cremation rites have accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church or PORTA Fitness Center, PO Box 202, Petersburg, IL 62675.
