Richard C. Stone

(1924-2009)

Richard C. Stone, 85, of Mason City, died at 8:35am, on December 30, 2009 at his residence.  He was born January 30, 1924, the son of J. Howard and Julia (Cargill) Stone in Cherry Grove, north east of Mason City.  He married Ruth L. Rutledge on September 14, 1947. 

Survivors are one daughter: Lois (Carl) Duewer; one grandson: John Richard Duewer and one sister: Jane Rutledge.  He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister. 

Mr. Stone was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and served on several boards of directors: Farmer’s Grain and Coal, Community Bank of Easton and 1st State Bank of Mason City of which he was one of the organizers.  He was a grain and livestock farmer most of his life and was a tax preparer for the Sangamon Valley Farm Business Services for 35 winters.  He had a private income tax service for 50 years.  He was also a Nine Gallon Blood Donor. 

Memorial Services will be at 2:30pm, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Charlotte Poetschner and Reverend Randy Rutledge will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:30pm at the church.  Memorials can be made to the United Presbyterian Church or the Mason City Area Nursing Home.  Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
