Richard "Rick" Smith
1950 - 2011
Richard “Rick” Smith, 61, of Mason City, IL passed away at 12:55 am Monday March
14, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 28,
1950 to Dallas “Dale” and Jaqueline (Loeffler) Smith in Springfield, IL.
He married Beverly Lussenhop on August 15, 1970.
Survivors include his wife Beverly, daughter Carrie Leigh, son Troy (Jenni)
Smith, granddaughter Taylor Leigh, his father “Dale” Smith and his beloved dog
Maggie. He was preceded in death by his mother Jaqueline, and two sisters,
Barb Dutz and Rhea Wrestler.
Rick retired from Caterpillar after 40 years as a tool and die maker. He
was a member of the UAW Local 974. He also farmed and raised hogs for many
years. He served as the Mason County Fair Swine Superintendent for several
years. He was a member of the Mason County Pork Producers and Lincoln Land
Group of Delta Waterfowl. He coached youth sporting clays. In his
younger years he raced motorcycles.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with his family
and the Chicago Cubs.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 10:00 am at the
funeral home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 5-7 at
Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery.
Nash Shawgo will be officiating. Memorial contribution may be give to an
education fund for his grandchildren.
