Rita Ann Pike

1923 - 2007

Rita Ann Pike, 84 of Springfield, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, November 22, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center.  She was born July 31, 1923, in Palmyra, to John B. and Catherine Ragen Smith.  She married William E. (Ed) Pike in Springfield on May 11, 1946; he preceded her in death September 4, 1988. 

Mrs. Pike graduated from Auburn High School in 1941, and lived in Petersburg and St. Louis most of her life.  She retired from Dillard’s in St. Louis, and moved to Springfield and also retired from the Sangamon County Recorder’s office after many years of service.  She was a member of St. Agnes Church, a Gold Star Mother, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also volunteered as a Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital.

Surviving are one daughter Catherine (Jim) Allen of Springfield; two sons, Donald E. Pike of St. Louis, Mo. And David E. (Debbie) Pike of Morgan, Utah, three granddaughters, Kari Allen (Scott Claycomb), Amy Allen of Springfield, and Alicia Pike of Fenton, Mo.; two great granddaughters; two sisters, Marcella (Bruce) Pike of Havana, and Patricia Puma of Thayer; one sister-in-law Beth Ann Smith of Divernon; several nieces, nephews, and many cousins; and a friend Glen Alexander of Loami.

She is preceded in death by her husband, one son Lance Cpl. Dennis E. Pike, and one brother Jack Smith.

Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritans at St. John’s Hospital, or to St. Agnes Church in Springfield.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
