Rose Mary Smith

1939 - 2010

Rose Mary Smith, 70, of Havana, formerly of Longmont, CO, passed away at her home at 6:45 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010. She was born September 22, 1939 in Havana, to Ernest and Mary (Shirley) Smith.

Ms. Smith is survived by two brothers, Marvin Smith and James (Sandy) Smith and four sisters, Faye (Mike) Berg, Bessie Grubbs, Bonnie Hannum and Sally (James) Rilea, all of Havana. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ernest Smith Jr., and sister, Donna K. Smith. Also surviving is her friend Louise Jackson of Longmont, CO, with whom she had made her home for the past 38 years.

Ms. Smith graduated from Havana High School in 1957 and then received a teaching degree from WIU. She taught P.E. and English at Beardstown until moving to Colorado, where she worked as a substitute teacher. In 1971 she took a job with Power Equipment in Colorado and worked there until taking a job with the US Postal Service in 1980. She held this job for 28 years, retiring in 2008.  

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana on Monday, April 19, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Following the visitation, she will be cremated and burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010.
