Roy Ryder
(1931-2011)
Havana, IL – Roy George Ryder, 79, of Havana died at his home Friday morning, May 6, 2011. He was born June 5, 1931 in Overland, MO to T.S. And Mary Ryder. On June 2, 1962 he married Virginia M. Chrisco of Arnold, MO and had four children, eleven grandsons and six great grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents T.S. And Mary (Rueweller) Ryder, his brother Ralph “Bud” Ryder and his brother Richard Ryder, Sr.
Roy leaves behind his wife Virginia, sons, Jim and Joe (Sandy) and daughter Jeannie Ryder of St. Louis, MO, and daughter, Julie (Doug) Richardson of Havana, IL. Grandsons; Cassidy, Spencer, Ashley, Dakota, Levi, Heath of Columbia, MO; Ben and Josh Ryder of Arnold, MO; Brad, Brock, Bryce and Brendon Richardson of Havana, IL; great grandchildren; Aeriann, Brooklyn, Brianna, Brent, Brylee and Brystol Richardson of Havana, IL.
Roy also leaves behind one sister, Mary Rose (Art) Goeke, nephews and nieces; Ralph (Donna) Ryder, Theresa (Terry) Hard, Mark (Vicky) Ryder, James Stone, Elizabeth Stone, Marie (Robert) Lay, Christine Ryder, Richard Ryder, Jr., and Multiple great-nieces and great nephews.
Roy attended St. Martin Of Tours School followed by Our Lady of the Ozarks College then attended St. Louis Seminary College, Oblate Fathers. After that he served in the U.S. Army for two years stationed in Okinawa, then returned to Missouri to receive his degree in accounting from St. Louis University. He worked as an accountant for Centrifugal in MO for 10 years, Crescent Forge in Havana for 5 years and the State of Illinois Department of Revenue for 18 years.
Roy was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 46 years and served as a Past Grand Knight. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 37 years and a member of the men's bowling league.
A memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, May 13, 2011 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Frs. John Horton and David Whiteside officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Cards may be sent to the family at 322 N. Orange St, Havana. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to assist with expenses. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
