Ruth E. Herring

1921 - 2011

Ruth E. Herring, 89, of Bath, IL passed away at 8:38 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. She was born November 23, 1921 in Skokie, IL to Arthur and Mabel Reusch Holtman. She married Howard “Jick” Herring, April 23, 1949 in Bath. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1991.

Ruth was a member of the 1^st United Methodist Church in Havana. She worked at the Mason County Democrat for several years, and then at Grant Florist for 18 years until her retirement in 1995. She was an avid gardener all of her life and she won several awards at the Illinois State Fair for having the most blue ribbons in Floriculture. She had also been an avid bowler and card player.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Herring of Bath, son, Michael of Green Valley, IL , grandson, Chris of Green valley and granddaughter, Karen (Brad) Carter and her three great-grandsons, Jacob, Chase and Gabriel, all of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jick, daughter-in-law Sue Herring , two brothers, Robert and Arthur Holtman and one sister, Irene Martin.

Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Rev. Sidney Davis will officiate.
