1955 - 2010

Sharon D. Long, 55, of San Francisco, CA died at 1:45 p.m. Friday afternoon, August 27, 2010 at San Francisco General Hospital.
She was born April 4, 1955 to Edward D. “Edo” and Janette M. (Hackman) Long in Springfield, Illinois. She was engaged to David Grooms of San Francisco, CA. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother, Janette; two sisters, Martha (Richard) Baxter; Marilyn (Joseph) Cusick; and four brothers, Edward (“Ebby”) Long, Jr.; Jeffery Long; Douglas Long; Phillip (Ginger) Long; an uncle, aunts (including a special aunt, Bettye Hackman), several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her father (Edo), brother (Gregg Duffy), sister-in-law (Suzanne), uncle (Eldon, Jr.), nephew (Joey), grandparents, and other special relatives.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana, Illinois but most recently attended the Hamilton Square Baptist Church in San Francisco.
She was a graduate of Havana High School Class of 1973 and the Madison Business College of Madison, Wisconsin in 1975.
She was employed for 30 years as a legal secretary at several well-known law firms in Illinois and San Francisco.
She volunteered as the secretary for the IRIS Counseling Center in San Francisco, participated in the San Francisco AIDS Walk and supported the San Francisco AIDS LifeCycle.
Sharon enjoyed traveling, movies, plays, cultural events, family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Havana, Illinois. Fr. Phillip Boeve and Fr. James Fedosuk will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana, Illinois. A memorial service will be held in San Francisco at a later time for family and friends in that area.
