Sheldon E. Potts (1913 -
2009) Petersburg – Sheldon E. Potts, 95, of
Petersburg went to meet his Lord Monday, October 12, 2009. Sheldon
was born December 5, 1913 in Fulton County, the son of Edward and Caroline
Potts. He married Vivian V. Cozart
on December 24, 1932; she preceded him in death in 1951.
He married Vivian D. Herrmann on August 15, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran
Church near Bath. He
was a 59 year member of Plumbing & Pipe Fitting Local Union 137.
After retiring from plumbing, he became a bus driver for Porta School
District 202 for 13 years. He was a
member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He
is survived by his wife Vivian, 3 children; Janet (Larry) Thomson, Jim (Linda)
Potts both of Petersburg, and Brenda (Hugh) Whalen of Lincoln; son-in-law Harold
Stier of Petersburg, daughter-in-law Mary Potts of Havana; 15 grandchildren; and
24 great grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his parents, 4 children; Sheldon Edward, Jr., Elmer
John, Harold Potts, and Helen Stier; 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Family
will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at
Hurley Funeral Home, Petersburg, IL. Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church with Reverend Jeffrey Gross officiating.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
Bethlehem Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. |
