Sherry Oney

1936 - 2009

Sherry Oney, 73, of Havana, passed away at the Mason City Area Nursing Home at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009. She was born June 18, 1936 in Peoria, IL to Theodore "Ted" and Florence (Waughop) Rapp. She married W. Eugene Oney on January 15, 1956 in Morton. Her husband of 53 years preceded her in death on November 29, 2009.

Mrs. Oney is survived by five sons, Chris Oney of Havana, Ted (Lynn) Oney of Tampa, FL, Scott (June) Oney of Granite City, IL, Jeff (Diane) Oney, of Mason City, Victor (Christina) Oney of Havana, one daughter, Sheryl (David) Roos of Havana, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Rosemary (Paul) Schwarzentraub of Morton and one twin brother, Terry (Kathy) Rapp of York, SC as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Mrs. Oney dedicated her life to raising her six children and working beside her husband at the stores of Oney's Foods for 43 years. When not busy with family and work, she could be found in her flower garden. She was also a Pink Lady of the Mason District Hospital, a member of the Methodist Church Choir and a member of Illinois Laureate Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Havana on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation two hours prior. Rev. Sidney Davis will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
