Shirley Poteet

(1939 -2009)

Shirley Jean Poteet, 70, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 4:19 pm at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on April 5, 1939 in Vienna, IL to Everett A. and Sybil Turner Beggs. She married Harlon Poteet on November 25, 1954 .

She is survived by her husband, Harlon of Athens; two sons, Dan (Char) Poteet of Dawson, and Ben (Denise) Poteet of Greenview; two daughters, Terri (Jim) Austin of Springfield, and Rebecca (Dan) Sitarski or Wentzville, MO; a brother, Daniel (Anita) Beggs of Springfield; a sister, Sherry (Dennis) Suter of Lamar, MO; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Mrs. Poteet was a homemaker. She was a member of Heartland Worship Center Church of God in Sherman.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 4:00 pm at Heartland Worship Center Church of God in Sherman. Pastor Jim Austin will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, also at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded.
