Shirley Ann Schmidt-Barker

1947 - 2008

Shirley Schmidt-Barker, 60, of Havana, died at 11:17 pm Thursday, May 15, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

She was born July 10,1947 to Wilburn "Cap" and Mary (Blodgett) Schmidt in Canton. She married Colin Barker on September 7, 1977. He survives.

Also surviving are her mother, Mary Schmidt of Havana; one son, Gabriel (Danielle) Barker and two grandsons Silas and Elijah Barker, all of Havana; one daughter, Aubrey Caitlin Barker of Springfield; two sisters, Helen (Dominic) Dalpoas of Lincoln and Carol Schmidt of Havana; two brothers, David (Cheryl) Schmidt of Enumclaw, Washington and Richard Schmidt of Havana; one niece and six nephews; four great-nieces and seven great-nephews; and five aunts and one uncle.

She was preceded in death by her father, "Cap" Schmidt, one son, Zachary Barker, and several aunts and uncles.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Havana; taught art at the Springfield Theater for several summers; was treasurer of the Mane Stage Theatre in Havana; and was co-founder of Project Thanksgiving in Havana. She started her teaching career in elementary education in St. David and Little America, then became owner and teacher at the Big Apple Pre-school in Havana for the past twenty-eight years.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Havana. Memorials may be made to Big Apple Pre-school or Project Thanksgiving. Online memorial messages may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com.
