John Spud Thomas

1927 - 2007

Easton, IL - John "Spud" Thomas, 80, of Easton, IL passed away at 7:46 am Sat., Nov. 3, 2007 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born Sept. 1, 1927 in Menard County the son of Raymond and Viola Vannaken Thomas. He married Olivene Hester Aug. 21, 1948 and she survives.

He worked for many years at Fager’s Hardware Store in Easton and later worked for the Mason County Highway Dept., retiring in 1989. He was a very avid card player and a frequent visitor to the Easton Café.

Mr. Thomas is survived by three daughters; Gloria (Marvin) Fangmeier of Pekin, Shirley Staltz (Mickey Wills) and Deb (Brock) Thompson both of Havana; five grandchildren, Marla Luft, Jim Fangmeier, Julie Staltz, Marlene Greene, and J. R. Thompson. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren and two brothers, Carl (Marsha) Thomas of Astoria and Delbert (Candy) Thomas of Tremont, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tues., Nov. 6, 2007 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana conducted by Rev. Vince French. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service (noon until 2:00 pm) and burial will be in the Walker’s Grove Cemetery near Easton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mason District Hospital Medical/Surgical Unit. A meal will follow the graveside service at the Easton Firehouse.
