1944 - 2010

Susan M. Poler, 65, of Havana, passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital – South in St. Louis, MO at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010. She was born October 11, 1944 in Havana to Lee and Sylvia (Peters) Towery. She married Jon Poler on August 31, 1985 in Aurora, IL.

Mrs. Poler is survived by her husband, Jon, of Havana, two daughters, Joleen (Greg) Oest of Springfield, Tina (Rod) Boggs, of Havana, son, Michael Mason of Havana, two step-daughters, Sherri (Bart) Kerz of Springfield, Kristi Poler of Havana, one granddaughter, Tonya (Eric) Hill of Taylorville two great-granddaughters, three step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two sisters, Libby (Jerry) Edwards of Canton, Bessie Gietl of Springfield, and three brothers, John (Marge) Towery of Chandlerville, Ron (Linda) Towery of Harrisburg and Richard Towery of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents six brothers, Eugene, James, Jack, Ray, David and Robert Dean Towery and two sisters, Rose Justice and Marilyn Ogden.

Mrs. Poler worked for many years at the State Farm office in Havana, State Bank of Havana and then in the Mason County Assessor’s Office starting in September 1990. She was appointed to her position as Mason Co. Supervisor of Assesments in July 1997 and held that position until retiring in April 2007.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. Randall K. Munson will officiate.
