Thelma June Roat 1922 - 2010 Thelma June Roat, 87, of Havana, passed away at her home at 10:10 a.m. on Monday, March 01, 2010. She was born, June 24, 1922 near Sinesville, IN to Roy and Kathryan (Swafford) Smith. She married Charles Roat in St. Louis, MO on August 9, 1941. Mrs. Roat is survived by her husband, Charles, of Havana, three sons, Keith (Donna) Roat of Havana, Ronald (Cheryl) Roat of Goodyear, AZ, Eldon (Kari) Roat of Havana, 8 grandchildren and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are brother, Charles Smith of Winterhaven, FL and sister, Nila Stagner of Benson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Vivian Nadine Collins. Mrs. Roat was a member of the Havana Church of the Nazarene, where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and a Missionary President for many years. She was also a member of Mason County Home Extension. Mrs. Roat loved teaching, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made dresses for many of her Sunday School kids, grandchildren and daughter-in-laws. She had also made many bridesmaids dresses for weddings. She played the piano and accordion and, along with her husband, led the music at her church. She also loved to travel, visiting 40 different states, including Hawaii. Funeral services will be held at her church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Revs. Jim Buchanan and Sue Roat will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to her family. Online memorial messages may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com.
